Pick a piece you can finish in 10–15 minutes. If you can say the gist in your own language, the level is right. More than about five unknown words per page: choose a shorter piece. Do not pick by title.

Four steps you can use today. This is not a reading list.
2. Find the verb
Mark the verb, then who does it and what happens. Treat a clause as one block. If it still will not parse, read it aloud before you translate word by word.
3. Few words, seen again
Keep only the words that actually block meaning — 5–8. Write one sentence of your own for each, and glance again the next day. A long list you never reopen is not vocabulary work.
4. Speak after you read
One sentence of gist, then read or shadow once. For face-to-face talk, use the English corner. For a daily rhythm, use the 7-day challenge. Daily read-along: Chen’s English Reading Club.
