The Golden Stool, enstooled in 1701 during Osei Tutu’s reign, was never sat upon nor treated as furniture but as the literal soul of the Ashanti Confederacy.
Its consecration fused Akan cosmology with political theory: sovereignty resided not in rulers or territory but in an immaterial yet materially anchored spiritual entity.
