Saturday morning is slower than a school morning. Lin Hao wakes up when the sun is already on the wall. There is no school bus, and no science question on the blackboard. He still makes his bed, because that small habit makes the room look bigger.
Mum is watering the plants on the balcony. Dad is repairing a chair that made a noise all week. Lin Hao asks, "Can I help?" again, and Dad lets him hold the screwdriver. They finish the chair together, and it does not make that noise any more.
Later Lin Hao reads yesterday's English paragraph once more. This time the new words feel less new. He writes three sentences in his notebook about his own Saturday. Home is a place to rest, and also a place to try again.
At noon the family eats noodles. Mum says, "Nice and slow today. No hurry." Lin Hao likes that sentence. A quiet Saturday keeps the next Monday from feeling too heavy.
