Waiting for the Bus

Monday morning is rainy, and the bus stop is full of umbrellas. Lin Hao stands behind the yellow line with Dad. Cars pass quickly, and the ground is wet and shiny. A little girl near them is crying because her book bag is heavy.

星期一早上下雨，车站里全是伞。 林浩和爸爸站在黄线后面。 车开得很快，地面又湿又亮。 旁边一个小女孩在哭，因为书包太重。

Dad says, "Here it comes." The bus is crowded, but they get on carefully. Lin Hao holds the rail and makes a little space for the girl. She stops crying and whispers, "Thank you."

It takes twenty minutes to reach the school gate. Through the window Lin Hao sees fruit shops, a small restaurant, and people on bikes. The city is noisy, but the rain makes it look new. He thinks of the farm boy in the book, who has no bus, only a bicycle.

At the school stop Dad says, "Be careful on the stairs." Lin Hao answers, "I will. Have a good day." He jumps over a puddle and runs toward the gate. Waiting in the rain is not fun, but the day has started well.
