On Wednesday Lin Hao walks home with Chen Yu, because Dad has a meeting. They stop at a wide crossing near the supermarket. Cars come from both sides, and a motorbike is waiting too. The light is still red.
"Look both ways," Chen Yu says, even though they already know the rule. A man near them starts to run when the light is still red, but they do not follow. The light turns green. "Let's go," Lin Hao whispers. "Walk, don't run."
In the middle of the street the wind is stronger. A plastic bag flies past their feet. They keep walking until they reach the other side. Safe is better than fast, Lin Hao thinks.
走到马路中间,风更大了。 一只塑料袋从脚边飞过。 他们一直走到马路对面。 林浩想:安全比快更重要。
第 4 段
Chen Yu lives in a tall building, and Lin Hao lives in a smaller one nearby. "See you tomorrow," they say at the corner. The city is modern and crowded, but the crossing is the same every day. If they are careful, they can always get home.
