In art class Lin Hao has two pencils, but Zhao Min's pencil breaks. She looks in her bag, then looks worried. The teacher is already explaining the drawing. There is no time to go downstairs to the shop.
Lin Hao puts one pencil on her desk. "You can use this one," he says. Zhao Min's face changes. "Thanks. You're so kind." They draw the same tree, one with leaves, one with a bird.
Sharing does not make Lin Hao poorer. He still has one pencil, and now two pictures will be finished. The teacher walks by and says, "Good. You helped each other." Zhao Min later gives him a piece of her eraser, because his is very small.
After class they laugh about the broken pencil. "Let's share next time, too," Zhao Min says. Kindness in class is often this small. A pencil, a seat, a sentence: enough to change the hour.
